Luftbild Ostseefjord Schlei, Ostseeresort Olpenitz, Leuchtturm Schleimünde, Schleimündung, Lotsenhaus | Die Geschichte der Halbinsel reicht weit zurück: Schleimünde ist bereits in der altnordischen Jómsvíkinga saga als Slømynna und Slødyr sowie im Erdbuch Königs Waldemars von 1231 schriftlich dokumentiert. Im Jahr 1065 soll hier eine Seeschlacht zwischen dem Neffen des Königs Svens Estridsen, Asmund, und Hakon Iversen stattgefunden haben. Die Burg Oldenburg, südöstlich der heutigen Schleieinfahrt gelegen, stammt vermutlich aus dem frühen 12. Jahrhundert und war Teil eines Verteidigungssystems für den Handelsweg auf der Schlei.
