Luftbild Eckernförde - Die Stadt erlebte erhebliche Schäden durch Naturkatastrophen | Die Stadt erlebte erhebliche Schäden durch Naturkatastrophen, darunter eine Sturmflut 1872, die 122 Häuser zerstörte und 400 Menschen obdachlos machte, sowie eine weitere Sturmflut am 20. Oktober 2023, die Strand, Dünen und Promenade schwer beschädigte. Eckernförde erhielt 1986 die Auszeichnung „UNO-Stadt“ und ist heute ein bekanntes Ostseebad mit einem modernen Meerwasser Wellenbad, das 2012 umfassend saniert wurde.
