Jahrhundert am hohen Schleiufer stand. Ursprünglich entwickelte sich der Ort als Fischerdorf und sicherer Hafen für Seefahrer auf dem Weg nach Haithabu, was zur Gründung der St. Nikolaikirche beitrug.
