Luftbilder Ostseefjord Schlei, Maasholm, Port Olpenitz, Schleimünde | Fast die gesamte Halbinsel ist Teil des Naturschutzgebiets Schleimündung (691 Hektar, davon 127 Hektar Land), das 1927 ausgewiesen wurde und heute unter anderem FFH-Gebiet und Vogelschutzgebiet ist. Es bietet wichtige Lebensräume für Zug- und Wasservögel wie Austernfischer, Möwen und Enten. Der Zugang zum Naturschutzgebiet ist nur im Rahmen geführter Wanderungen erlaubt.
